Throwback: Disney posted at 23:59
Around this time last year, I probably just finished Traditions. It was a must for every single cast member. I woke up at around 6 am to prepare and take the bus to go to Disney University. I remember being elated for this trip, because during that class, we get to visit Magic Kingdom. It was truly one of the best days in my life. I recall myself snapping photos everywhere I go, every turn, every building. I wanted to capture everything. There was just so much to see you know? By the time we went back, Mickey Mouse appeared.
The icon of Magic Kingdom
I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse.
Walt Disney
After which, I received my nametag. We got to keep this though.
NYP Disney Team
Just to prove it actually exist and I went there. That hat was and will always be my favourite.
Up close.
The cards that I don't get to keep but wish I could. Chatham Square was the apartment I was living in. And what I have learnt is that, for every season they have different card colour. I was the summer program, resulting in the green one. The next batch had the orange one, which is the fall season. It was so much prettier.
I like how they put trainees as "Earning my ears". It's creative and different. But I guess it all leads back to Mickey Mouse.
For that first week, we settled down. Did whatever we had to do, going grocery shopping, did our registrations, welcoming of summer program, got our social security number, make our citibank card, cultural exchange class, going to walmart. It was a totally different environment. Things were difficult without a car. It's hard to travel around. We had this bus stop in front of the housing to bring us to specific places. Including the nearest walmart, post office, our work locations and etc. Taxi are expensive there considering everywhere is so far away.
Walmart is huge. There's everything and anything there. The first thing I bought was obviously a sim card. It was from T-Mobile. Unlimited data usage, that bought me over. Moreover it was around 30 USD, I rather pay that than my plan in Singapore. Got food, instant meals (FYI it was as cheap as 1 USD), milk. Everything is big sized over there. There are milk by the gallons, 10 kgs worth of potatoes, but the rice there are expensive?!?! For a small packet (1 kg), it cost around 5 - 7 USD. I think I only bought it twice cause I'm an Asian with Asian needs.
I can't find the photo with my face beside it for comparison. But here it is. And the cereal man, our biggest size is like their normal size. It's crazy.
This was not the biggest. Let me just tell you that.
My first meal was Hooters, and the girls there, oh my god. I would like to say that the girls here are conservative. And in USA, you have to tip the waitress/waiter. It's obviously not a must if the waitress/waiter isn't providing a good service, but most of the time they are. Because they survive on tips alone. The tips are around 20% of the total bill. The minimum wage for tipped staff is insane, 2.13 USD. Can you imagine if the restaurant's got no customers?!
Turkey leg from Magic Kingdom. It is not possible to eat it by yourself, unless you're a monster?
Before I applied for Overseas Internship, I had my doubts. Money issues, can I really be independent over there? Moreover I have a boyfriend that time as well, was long distance relationship possible. When it was 6 am here, it's 6 pm there. I was going there with a classmate I didn't like, I thought of so many, but in the end, what convinced me was. It's Walt Disney World. A place I wanted to go since I was a little girl. Why not risk it, take up the challenge and go for it. I can earn back the money, it's an opportunity of a lifetime. And Universal happens to be there as well. All I could think about was, why not? So I signed up. I really had the time of my life over there. Although I was alone most of the time, I had fun. I mean, what's not to love about unlimited entrance?
Shagged face because I was so excited I remember I couldn't sleep much. And I was glad he made it back to send me off.
My hair was crazy oily, I spent 24 hours in the plane. I had two transits. I flew from Singapore to London. London to Miami. Miami to Orlando. I was fine flying alone though, it was different. Considering I have never done that before.
After my first bath.
Before Traditions, I already knew where I was going. My first reaction was, what the heck is this?! Where is it even?! I was disappointed in where I was going. I wanted to work in a theme park so badly, especially Magic Kingdom, I was devastated. Moreover, I wasn't allowed to change my work location. And I wasn't someone who love sports. Even though I know ESPN, I just didn't expect to get that. I always felt that I'm going to gym with the clothes. But then again, I was thankful. Because the weather in Orlando is a bitch man. Every time I go out, I feel tanner when I come back. It was scorching, not joke.
It was a slack work environment, I didn't do much, the only complain was that I get send home often, because of too much people on shift. The games ended early, bad weather. If the games end early, people go home, so after that, there will be no customers to serve. We are mostly events based. If there's no activity, we don't have to work basically.
But after all that disappointment, I decided I wouldn't choose anywhere but ESPN. Because over there, I had the best of crew to work with. I had someone to talk to at every shift. The people are so interactive and outgoing it was hard not to make friends. Over there, I had a family.
Our time together were short, but I know we made the best out of it. Featuring my favourite leo - Yan Ling, my Mexican girlfriend - Ximena, Goofy lover/bitch - Sean, Girl that's always with her boyfriend - Jazmyn, annoying tall friend - Diego, and the rest of ESPN summer program. It was fun while it lasted. And to all the seasonal cast members and the full timers that are not in this photo, thank you for choosing ESPN if not I wouldn't have known you guys. You know who you are. Thank you. You guys are the best. Even though I dislike my job and some of the customers, I enjoyed it because of you guys. Everyday was full of laugher and joy.
Even though I had 4 deployments, ESPN is still home.
Graduation was bittersweet for me actually. I was looking forward to seeing my family, my boyfriend and my friends. But also i felt like I haven't done a lot of things. Like sky diving, finish all the parks. 3 months was a short period of time. In this 3 months, I have met friends that are true, backstabbers, inconsiderate people, rude customers, ignorant assholes. It was a true eye opener. I regretted spending some of my off days nuaing at home when I could just go out, not making more friends, not doing things that I want because of money. Despite all that, I truly enjoy my stay.
Queue so long for all of them.
Spent my last week going Universal. It was amazing. I went a tad too crazy on the rides.
FAVOURITE.
Completion.
I was rushing to get out, thus the shag photo. Bye 16204.
See ya real soon.
