State Funeral posted at 22:29
When I was on the bus, you can see majority of the people are wearing white or black. Whether is it to respect Lee Kuan Yew and to mourn for him or to remember our founding father, our goals are the same, it was all for him. The bus was silent, unlike a usual Sunday. Full of chatters, full of laughter, it was a quiet bus ride. On my way to my destination, I passed by Padang, and the crowd was insane, considering it was only 10.30am and it doesn't start until 12.30. Rows and rows of people standing outside Parliament, crowds and crowds of people standing by the roads, waiting for the funeral procession to start. There were flags, stickers, ribbons.
I was at queensway area when I was trying to leave for Serangoon. The rain was pouring, it has been a while since it rained so heavily. So much could be said...
"My grandma told me when it rains on someone's funeral, it means that the person is a really good man."
But like what I heard, it's better to rain. Imagine the heat, people are all waiting to see him one last time. I know they will do whatever it takes to do so. I see their perseverance, I see their effort. It was hard to even find a bus or taxi in that area. Everything was blocked. While I was walking, I saw this. And I just can't help but cry.
It wasn't well taken due to the rain but, the Singapore flag... It goes on and on. Even when I'm on the taxi, it's the same. People that couldn't find space beside the road, they go up the blocks and wait by the railings. The stairs to a temple, were filled with people with umbrellas and Singapore flags. One particular woman even ran from the other side of the road to this bus stop just to give out Singapore flags. The line of people just goes on, I'm amazed at the amount of people. But I'm also so honoured to be a Singaporean. To see so many people, wanting to see him for the last time, to pay their respect, it's heartening to see such a scene. It seems as if the rain fuels their goal even more. The people just doesn't stop. And I have no words. We all know how important he is to us.
And all we really want to do is say our last goodbyes.
Good bye Mr Lee, I know you don't think you will find her up there, but I sincerely hope you do.
