Passing of Lee Kuan Yew posted at 22:55
He shed his tears for the nation 50 years ago and 50 years later, the nation weep for him.
To think I thought I wouldn't have anything to blog today, I have. Something I wish I could never face, but I know it's inevitable.
Comfort. We have trains, buses that come within 15 - 20 minutes time. There are places whereby the buses take an hour. In Orlando, it was so hard to get around. I can only wait for the shuttle buses provided by my company. Taxis are much more expensive since the distances are huge. If not I have to drive which I obviously don't, because of the convenience in Singapore. We have roofs over our heads. Safety. I can say that we can go out in the middle of the night without worrying anything will happen to us. Not saying that our country is 100% safe, no crime rate. But I know for sure it's one of the safest. And this is all because of the strict rules we have here. I know it's hard to breathe in such a country that's full of laws to abide by, but then again, if not for all these rules, would our country be as safe? We have clean water, drinkable from the tap. I know that because when I was overseas, the moment I tasted the water from the tap, I know it's not clean. We don't have natural resources. But he fought hard for us. For all of us to have a better standard of living. We have air-condition. We have a non-corrupted government. We have one of the top education in the world. It's all because of his decisions. We might not agree to every one of them... But like what we have studied for social studies, "Good leaders are able to make choices and plans to improve the lives of people, the nation and the latter grows to new heights. Good leaders will also inspire the people and thus be able to carry the people with them when decisions (even tough and less popular ones) are made for the good of the country." That's what he have done. That's what changed Singapore. I might not be able to witness the change, but I know. From photographs, from what my grandparents tell me. We know. And we understand what we did Lee Kuan Yew. Today. So many quotes surfaced. Memories. Sentences. Videos. Of him. I might complain. But I know. That Singapore wouldn't be Singapore if not for him. So many things to say about him. But it would never do him justice.
But lastly... This hits home. I hope they treat you well up there. We will miss you. Thank you for everything you have done. It's time to rest.
